What's New in Cosmos, Interchain and IBC

  • Injective’s Ecosystem Highlight
September marked significant developments for Injective, focusing on real-world asset (RWA) tokenization with the launch of the BUIDL Index for tracking BlackRock's fund supply.

Injective now supports 11 tokenized RWAs and joined the Tokenized Asset Coalition alongside Coinbase and Circle. Community engagement expanded through Korea Blockchain Week and Token2049 events in Singapore, where Injective collaborated with Google Cloud.

On the product side, Helix introduced the 2024 Election Perpetual Futures Market and launched a trading competition. Injective has processed over 88 million blocks, reached 992 million transactions, and maintained 61.4 million INJ staked with a 10.38% APR. Trading volume on Injective's decentralized applications hit $1.3 billion, with peak daily volumes reaching $75M.

  • The Interwoven Stack: Optimistic Rollup Modules
Initia introduces the Interwoven Stack, a blockchain system combining L1 capabilities with app-specific rollups called Minitias. The framework consists of three main components: OPHost (managing L1 operations), OPChild (handling L2 operations), and OPinit Bots (connecting L1 and L2).

The system implements secure token transfers through an Optimistic Bridge, where deposits from L1 to L2 are near-instant while withdrawals undergo a 7-day security period.

Initia enhances rollup functionality with built-in features including Skip Connect for oracle services, cross-chain contract calls through Bridge Hooks, and integrated indexing services.

  • Osmosis Ecosystem Highlight
Osmosis implemented the v26 software upgrade, featuring a taker fee revenue share mechanism and an upgrade to Cosmos SDK v0.50 with CometBFT v0.38. Osmosis has expanded its interchain capabilities through a partnership with Omnity Network, enabling the first connection between Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) and the Interchain, facilitating ckBTC bridging.

CoinGecko integrated Alloyed Assets data on Osmosis DEX, while Secret Network users gained the ability to pay transaction fees in any asset through the Fee Abstraction module, generating 0.2% fees for OSMO stakers. The team launched Polaris, a Token Portal application at Solana Conference, designed to enable cross-chain token trading through a single interface.

  • Dymension's upcoming 3D upgrade
Dymension's upcoming 3D upgrade introduces a simplified RollApp deployment process through the Roller CLI tool, enabling operators to create and manage Layer 2 solutions without complex configurations.

The system automates RollApp setup by storing configuration data on-chain, while operators need only to establish IBC connections to activate their RollApp on the Portal for token transfers.

The upgrade also introduces eIBC clients, which process user withdrawals and provide an additional revenue stream for operators. The entire process is managed through the 3D Playground Testnet, making RollApp operation accessible through a documented, step-by-step approach.

  • Axelar introduces Mobius Development Stack
Axelar introduces Mobius Development Stack (MDS), an interoperability platform that enables cross-chain connectivity through multiple components. The system includes Interchain Amplifier for self-service blockchain connections, Interchain Token Service for native token management across chains, and the Axelar Virtual Machine for programmable interoperability.

MDS integrates with Babylon and EigenLayer to provide enhanced security using BTC and ETH collateral, while partnering with OpenZeppelin to develop open standards for cross-chain communication. Developers can create chain-agnostic applications, manage token supply across networks, and customize security requirements through AXL token bonding mechanisms.

  • Cheqd September Recap
Cheqd reached 100,000 Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) on its testnet, marking growth in Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) infrastructure adoption. The team expanded their presence in Asia through participation at Token2049 Singapore, DoraHacks Appchain Day, and Korea Blockchain Week.

Three governance proposals were introduced in September: DID-Linked Resources implementation, a commission rate adjustment to 5%, and Universal Trust Registries discussion. Research and Markets recognized cheqd as a key player in the global SSI market alongside Dock Network and Walt.id, while Dagnum PI featured an analysis of cheqd's products, partnerships, and tokenomics.

  • State of Cosmos Hub Q2'24
Messari's Q2 2024 report shows Cosmos Hub maintaining a 63.6% staking rate, with notable IBC transfer patterns showing a 20.7% increase in transfers-in and 45.6% decrease in transfers-out. The network achieved 8.9% quarter-over-quarter real yield growth, exceeding the 1.1% inflation increase.

echnical developments include the introduction of Partial Set Security, first implemented by Elys Network, allowing Consumer Chains to customize their economic models. Governance activity remained active with 11 out of 14 proposals passed, including Permissioned CosmWasm and ICS 2.0, funded through ATOM Accelerator.

  • Sei Less
Sei Network conducted a DeFi Week showcase highlighting key ecosystem components: DEXs and aggregators for permissionless trading, staking protocols for network security and liquidity, lending and derivatives platforms for capital efficiency, and cross-chain solutions for interoperability.

Sei introduced their Liquidity Alliance of market makers to maintain trading depth across protocols. The initiative demonstrated how different DeFi sectors interact to support Sei's ecosystem growth, from basic trading infrastructure to advanced financial tools, contributing to increased TVL and daily activity metrics.
